Do you mean when? Assuming that the lack of the apostrophe means can't instead of can, it is because people are all to willing to hate, or kill others for personal gain.
One of the most evil men in history was driven by love (for the Aryan people and Germany) as well as hate (against Jews, blacks, homosexuals and the like).

When it is easier to work for something than it is to take from another.
When all people take responsibility for themselves, and not blame their neighbours, people of the "wrong"colour, religion or nationality.
When people everywhere give up on the belief in a supernatural being who has everything worked out for them, but not the non-believers.
But cheer up. The world is actually better now than at anytime in human history. People live longer, and have better chances for happiness than they did 100 years ago, forget 1000 yers ago.
The world is actually moving in the right direction. The conflicts now are less about resources and more with a dawning realization that secularism is taking over.
This makes the religious people fearful and results in their insane and irrational hatreds. If we make it through the next 60 years without nuclear or biological catastrophe, even environmental issues will get fixed and we all will be living contented lives.

Because our world is run along economic and religious fault lines, and there are extremists everywhere.
Point 1:
There is no "god". So go ahead and pray if you feel you must, but it won't do any good. No one is going to magically "swoop" down here and one day have some fragrant paradise for you to reside in.
Point 2:
The systems of greed are so ingrained in our modern life (McMansions, Humvees, wracking up HUGE amounts of debt, etc.) that nothing short of culture collapse will allow the system to re-set ... remember the Roman Empire? The USA will duplicate their downfall soon enough ...
Point 3:
TRUE Communism (the original vision by Karl Marx that was intended to rail against the ill effects of the "Industrial Revolution", not the bastardized version that was enacted in Russia and East Germany and elsewhere) is the only way that there would be any kind of Utopia on Earth ... but we'll all kill each other before anything like that could happen. Those Arabs get nukes in any quantity and it's "GAME OVER."
Point 4:
Try to have a nice day ... while you can.

a little thing called 'diverse interests' is the reason. until all people can accept others for their beliefs, customs, values, and all other assorted differences like skin color and eye shape, AND share the planets resources equally, peace on earth is simply not achievable. life is a competition for resources among like-minded groups who interact with other groups only when some benefit is derived by that interaction. it's just that simple...

A profound question, but needs exhaustive answer.
Man has gone astray from the beliefs that God has given him. And when this happens, laws and logic become useless and values become null, and people start to think in the wrong direction. This results in the law of the jungle, and consequently, dismissing others becomes the norm, including taking their possessions and life, hence killing and mass killing. WW1 and WW2 are good examples.
Unfortunately, this is the nature of things, and good people have to fight back to make good what others have made bad.
There remains one question, who is right and who is wrong.
Following God's belief is the answer to your question, for He has created us, and He knows the rules to peace.

Should US presidents-whose policy is to please Islamic dictatorships, such as Saudi Arabia, by attacking, demonizing, or supporting ad hoc tribunals against democratically elected heads of Christian states-be brought to justice and be treated the way they should, then I think there is a good chance for the world to have peace, please God.

Because there are a lot of bad and sick people out there. So if you don't want to be in charge you need to fight.
