Why do most of their lead singers sound like a teenage boy entering puberty? It's not all of them but, a good majority. I just can't stand the new whiney rock. I just want to know when and how it became popular.

I realize that not all new rock bands are like that, but a majority. The reason I posted this question is that I have a Yahoo radio My Station and have it set exclusively for rock. Artists like Godsmack, Social Distortion, Tool, Audioslave, NOFX, Nickleback, and Nine Inch Nails to name a few. But still every now and then a song pops up with some whiney little punk screaming about his girlfriend breaking up with him and it's labeled as "rock".

Horsegal is absolutely right. Hit singles are bought not earned in today's music market. Talent and mainstream success have no correlation in today's world. Just look at all the crap films, music and TV shows that become "hits" and all the really good stuff that gets ignored.

In music (and to a lesser extent film and television), teenagers drive the dollar, that's why they all look and sound like teenagers, even though most of them are over 21.

That's "emo" scene rock...and it's not even the most popular ones in the rock scene. They're just popular among whiney emo girls.

Bands like Tool, Disturbed, Muse, Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers...there's good rock right there. Just plug in one of them and you'll forget about the "emo" scene...entirely.

Haaa.
Good question.

I'm thinking because all the little teeny-boppers, of which i used to be one--Thankfully, i am not anymore--drive the music market. If a mediocre band can get on MTV, all the teenage fangirls will lap it up.

thinking they're so original.
by the way, I'm fifteen. so never say that ALL teenagers have crap taste in music.
even if you think I have crap taste, at least it's my own.
:D

when mtv, fuse, trl, and the record companies started promoting the crap out of them. i dont know either. how did 80's hair metal become popular? it's just a music phase. and not all new music sounds like the singer's eleven years old. you're just not listening to the right new music.

its all about whats selling now...the music industry is flooding the market with bands that sound the same so they can make money...

there are only two singers that are mainstream now that have high voices that i truly respect...just because its the way they sing and it always has been before they were big big...

craig owens of chiodos and anthony green of circa survive (and saosin back in the day)

You are ****** right. All of this new punk **** sucks. Their voice is all squeaky and stuff. We should just stick to the good stuff like KISS and Motley Crue. Then SOME of the new stuff like Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, Rob Zombie, Disturbed, and stuff like that.

all the popular rock bands pretty much suck

It didn't become popular. It's just a fad with THEM. They listen to U2 and think that stuff is fun to listen to.

Lets just stick with old school.
