The Philippine Islands or The Republic of the Philippines?
My friend from Calif always says P.I. which I don't think is right.
I told her that P.I. is short for a swear word and it should be R.P.
right?

PI was our official name when we were a colony of the USA. Republic of the Philippines is our official name in the international community, and makes it clear tha we are an independent republic.

The Philippines is more known as The Republic of the Philippines as far as I know.

After American annexation, the original official name "Las Islas Filipinas" was anglicized into "the Philippine Islands". This was eventually shortened into "Philippines" when the islands achieved Commonwealth status...

and now it is officially the Republic of the Philippines / Republika ng Pilipinas; RP...

its Republic of the Philippines. that is why when we make legal documents we use Republic of the Philippines and not Philippine Islands

or Phils.or if the shortened for the country named
PHp if money matters
