Congratulations. You have asked a Question on Yahoo
Questions and Answers. Now, the trick is to refine (simplify
the question) the words down to something specific that
someone else can actually answer.

Space is vast...larger than you can imagine on your very best day. It is awesome.

Many things are out there and they are located far, far apart.
It is not possible to discuss "finding nothing" until you grasp the concept of the immense size of space. For example, how far would you have to travel to decide that you didn't find anything? You see, at this time we can "see" objects in space that are 13.7 Billion Light Years away from us using some of our best optical telescope systems. With Radio Telescopes we have been able to detect objects in deep space as far away as 40 Billion Light Years from Earth. That is a humongous distance, and there is no chance that any human being is ever going to travel that far away. So it is hard to understand what you actually mean when you say "go into space..." . We don't understand what you mean as far as how far... In general, other than the relationship that moons have with their planets, and planets have with their suns, stars (suns) are located many light years apart from each other. Some stars are actually double stars, or triple stars and spin around each other in a dance that goes on forever. Distances between them may be much less than several light years. The other exception is with star clusters such as the dense mass of stars within the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. Those stars are in very close proximity to one another.

There are places in space where objects are separated by unusually large distances and you might say that the area is void of objects. Here again it is a matter of "how far" are we talking about. In asking questions like this one must set some limits such as "within 100 Light Years", or "within 1000 Light Years" to get any kind of reasonable answer. Without some kind of limiting factor, you force the question responder to discuss "all of space" which is just not possible in a short paragraph or two.

There is no place in outer space that has ever been detected, or observed where you could not conceiveably go further onward unless you headed straight into the Sun, or something like that. Outer Space is much, much larger than most people can imagine, and deal with. It seems that you are asking is there is an "end" to space. The answer is that we have never found one.

Please do not be misled by the chap that told you that Space was like a ring and if you traveled far enough in one direction, you would return to the same point. It is not a ring. If it were, and objects in space are moving away from each other at fantastic rates of speed, then over time we would have seen stars and galaxies flying past us (here on Earth) as they completed the loop and moved on. We do not see that. In fact, stars and constellations seem to (more or less) stay in
the same place all the time, from year to year. Over very long lengths of time we can see them (objects in space) moving farther and farther apart.

the universe is most likely a 4 dimensional hypersphere. it has no end you would just end up back where you started.

another possible senario is that the expansion of space has a speed. if space was actually created in the big bang like the theory says then i could and probably does have an expansion that is faster than the speed of light. meaning that nothing could reach the edge because the expansion is just too fast.

The universe is theorize (because some say) to be infinite.. So it doesn't ends up.. Meaning, if it's infinite..It don't have definite measure..If you go in space, you'll see darkness. Remember, even "light years" didn't count on the darkness that the universe have, even the stars. So I think you have the answer on you're mind already with my comments.. It's my best knowledge that I've told you already.. Hope you can find your "BEST ANSWER" see yah!!

The universe is continuously expanding (this is according to the Big Bang Theory) It will expand to a certain point, and then will start collapsing into itself. Right now, it is still expanding. Unfortunately, no one has even come close to finding out where it ends and where is the point where it is still expanding :)

If you kept going in a perfect straight line you would eventually end up back where you started. The universe is quite possibly like a giant ring (think celestial donut, but without sprinkles).

It never ends. Its expanding as u speak.Dont ask me whats beyond that expansion.
But it never ends.

Read "A breif history of time" by Stephen Hawking.
It tells you a lot about how time and universe started without using too many jargons.

It is unknown whether the universe is infinite, or finite but bent back upon itself, so that you could circumnavigate it. In either case, it has no end or edge.
