Take a look at how he cut funding for the VA while increasing its workload during a war. He and his Neocon buddies view the VA as welfare. When our soldiers are no longer any use to them, they simply want to discard them.

Congress appropriates funds to the VA. The president is required to propose a budget yet congress is in no way obligated to follow that budget and rarely does take it at face value. It is a false question to ask what any President is doing in this area when it is congress that has the power. Bush can only direct the Head of the VA to do his job. If he came up with a new idea that cost no extra money then maybe he could change something but call your senator for some real influence here.

And no, Congress sucks on this issue. Government run health care....... it's working great so far right?

The VA hospital system needs to be dismanted. Give all of us disabled veterans an insurance card so we can get the care we need in the private sector rather than the piss poor service available at VA clinics. Bush is the latest in a long line of presidents to not address this issue. It needs to stop now. The VA hospitals have never been able to provide for all the needs of all the veterans in all areas. There is no way to dump enough money into the system to build and maintain state-of-the-art hospitals in every part of the country able to meet every veteran's needs. And yet when the VA falls short they will not let us seek supplemental care in the private sector. They will not even transport us to another VA facility where better care is available. They make us wait, sometimes for years until they get the budget to hire the specialist we need. It is atrocious. Bush did not create this horrendous state of affairs. But nor has he done anything to correct it. I have written dozens of letters over the last 10 years and gotten no results. Clinton did nothing, Bush did nothing, and none of the presidents that came before them did anything. America's veterans have been suffering the same indignity for 60 years but no one cared. It is only because Bush is so unpopular on so many other issues that people want to blame him for this one as well. If that blame gets things to change then heap it on for he is surely the latest one responsible for the problem. But don't pretend that the problems did not exist before.

You better get used to this. If the damn liberals keep insisting on socialized medicine, that is the same treatment you will get. The VA is the poster child of how the government handles medical care.
