I never consider the exchange rate.

Otherwise, that would really be buying dollars on a speculative basis, cashing in when the exchange rate is high. This damages the economy, actually.

I buy dollars only to address my foreign currency requirements, e.g. for travel, transferring cash to my siblings when necessary, etc. Thus, I do not mind if the value fluctuates. The value to me is always its face value in dollar terms.

I don't really want to, but in my case, since my family is going "home" (The =) Philippines), pretty soon I will have to.
I am actually disappointed. They said that the economy is doing a lot better since the peso rate went up. But can you see any difference? The only difference you'll see is that Filipinos abroad and their families back in the Philippines suffer because of the dollar rate nowadays. The families have to try to budget the money more wisely. The filipinos abroad work more to have more money so they'd be able to meet their family's needs. Dollar rate goes down, gas prices are up, everything else goes up. So what's the diff? Most Filipinos would appreciate it more if dollar rate goes back up so they would be able to meet their needs without having too much difficulty on budgeting. As we all know, almost every Filipino family has a relative abroad nowadays!

No way.

I hope that the exhange rate will go back to around 50 by the end of January 2008. I already bought my USDs here since the dollar is so weak against European currencies.

Man, the current PHP-USD rate just kills yah. If I were to change my vacation dollars now, as compared to when it was around 50... I'd get 30,000 pesos less!!!

I'll pray to the "rate-gods".

Yes. It seems, the trend of the dollar would go down further until end of the year because of the influx of dollar remittances.
