Three figure bearings are measured clockwise from North.

If the angle turned clockwise from North is less than 100 degrees then place a zero in front of the measurement to give a three figure bearing. For example due East would be a bearing of 090 degrees.

Note that this can appear confusing because positive angles are measured anti-clockwise are. Three figure bearings are the exception.

Measure clockwise from north.
NE = 045°
E = 090°
SE = 135°
S = 180°
SW = 210°
W = 270°
NW = 315°
