a chain.
think its twenty one yards, something to do with the distance between an ox and the ploughman.
( after reading the other answers i think you mean the distance between the stumps, which would be a wicket..?)
i just told you the distance, not the name, my bad..

cricket is played on a cricket pitch - which covers everything.
the area between the stumps is known as the wicket.
e.g. bowlers get warned for running on the wicket - not for running on the pitch!

Between wicket and wicket (by this I believe you mean the stumps) is the pitch. There is a popping crease at each end (in front of the stumps). This is the crease the batsmen have to cross to complete a run.

THE CRICKET PITCH,
The actual surface where the ball bounces is called "the wicket"!.
Most wickets are made of turf( grass)
Some used to be made of turf matting! placed over hardened clay~~ but things may have changed) from years ago!

my friend, english is a funny language. as u r confused here with the use of the word wicket by everybody at different places with differnt meaning let me make onething clear to u. see u got to understand the meaning of the word by looking at its usage as bcz it is modern english . then only u can tell the meaning of wicket.for ex:- 1-the wicket is flat and dry.----- here the meaning of wicket is the pitch. 2-the bowler has taken 200 wickets.---- here wicket means the number of batsman he has made out. 3-the fielder aimed at the wickets.---- here wicket refers to the stumps. see that. its simple . isnot it. now as far my knowlage goes the different meaning of wicket were given by the earlier commentators of cricket.
