That one is really easy, it would be for security. Technically, only entry/exit doors made from wood or fiber need to be solid-core. Exterior doors made from steel, fiberglass, etc., can be (and are) hollow. In addition, entry/exit are often required to meet insulation and fire standards and ratings (per local code).

Security. Solid Core Doors are more difficult to kick in especially if you have a deadbolt.

Isulation, noise and safety. I can put a fist through most hollow cores.
