I noticed that a number of the powerful and successful women in my field commonly have affairs with equally authoritative men whether married or not. Why the phenomenon?

Successful women may be aggressive true? Aggessiveness tends to lead into other aspects of their life. What they do not understand is that eventually their agressiveness is going to cause them to loose half of what they have worked to accomplish. Who cares. Those who cheat on their spouces pay the price in the end by loosing. To be honest they have it coming and eventually it ruins their reputation. Let them drown themselves in their own lust. Lust is self destructive. Sad isnt it?
Keep in mind that people who focus solely on status in relationships usually have failed relationships. Man I could go on and on with this. Bottom line it involves adults who are supposed to be responsible to their families or just plain responsible acting like they are 16 because of a job title. I would say, if it were my call, I would consider dropping them from their present postition and filling it with someone I felt made better judgements and would be less likely to be dishonest. Essentially that is what they are doing.

I think because successful women reach a success level that are dominated by married (usually older) men. The younger, single men are mostly just starting out and therefore are not in the same level as them. Plus I think successful women are attracted to men that are equal if not more successful than they are, which are usually once again older, married men.

Let Me put forward a simple hypothesis:
Successful people require the accoutrement of an equally successful partner. And a 'spouse' who 'lives off them' does not rate as an asset, nor as a status symbol.
The gender is irrelevant. Either will be attracted by the power and possessions of the other.

If they experience power and success in their professional life, it would make sense that the majority of the acquaintances are people of the same level. So access is the first answer.

Next, as they have probably chosen their career over a relationship, they would be more likely to choose a married man as he poses no threat to her time, schedule or the demands of her career.

Of course there are psychological explanations.I quote some sentences from sugarmommymeet.com as following:
Attraction: sex, companionship, admiration, power
Novelty
Excitement, risk, or challenge
Curiosity
Enhanced self-image
Falling in love
They are successful in their field but fail in others. They are seeking the balance.

Psychologically, successful women feel that they are too good for permanent attatchments.
