I seem to remember at the time Gerry McCann explaining that the fund had been set up to deal with the 'problem' of donations. This obviously, purposely or not, managed to get the idea across to millions of well meaning people that they were able to send in donations in order to help find Madeleine. They would have been aware at the time that they would not have been allowed to employ private investigators etc so one wonders what the money could have usefully been used for.
The most amazing thing about the whole thing is that they SELL missing posters - when the most effective way of getting missing posters out in to the public domain is to give them freely.
The wording of the fund is that it can be used for legal expenses and to cover cost of living expenses but the word 'donation' makes it less than clear that it is not a charity.
In my opinion nobody directly associated with the suspects should have any dealings with this money. Whether they are innocent or guilty there is an obvious conflict of interest. Does anybody actually donate anything to them anymore? I would rather presume their arguido status might have stopped that.
None of this money should be spent at the direction of the people suspected of killing Madeleine. I am sure that Murat never had the offer of dipping in for a few quid and yet he seemed to do as much as the McCanns to try and find this little girl.

Put yourself in their position. Wouldn't you devote all your time to looking for your missing child? Or would you say," oh well, lets toddle back to work"! Of course you wouldn't. No, the fund should not be frozen now. The fund has strict criteria and is allowed to be spent only on the search for Madeleine. There is nothing wrong with that. It is perfectly acceptable to ask for more details about just how the money is being spent. But I don't think you should fear the worst until you have proof. In my opinion it is amazing that the McCanns have been able to think so rationally in such a time of crisis. a model for all of us.

Of course the money should be frozen...especially as its certainly NOT being used to look for Maddie at present ?
I mean how much do wrists bands / balloons and ribbons cost for goodness sake..and if Gerry McCann has given up work permanently, then what are they living off ?

I said ages ago that the fund should have been frozen. In fact, I'm sure I signed a petition for that purpose.
Faith: Sorry to burst your bubble petal, but the existing website is doing NOTHING - that's NADA, ZILCH and any other way you can say ZERO - to find Madeleine. I laugh every time I see the "leave no stone unturned" slogan - because they haven't started TURNING stones to find this child! The fund money is sitting in a bank, gathering interest. I wonder WHO will benefit from this, hmmm?

The answer for both questions are:
YES.
Just if I'm wrong can the McCanns prove me with:
-Answering 40 questions (not the PR).
-Lie detector test.
-Make the Fund a Ltd.
If they do this, I might consider I'm wrong...
Have a star, good question well backed up.

Yes it should be frozen now .Did you know that an NHS employee can receive up to 12 months full sick pay so if the pair of them are off work due to stress, They won't be any worse off.

What I find despicable, is that they are paying the PR out of the fund. They went to a restaurant for a curry with friends the other night. Was that payed for out of the fund? It would not surprise me. If my child was missing, I wouldn't be sitting in some restaurant. Ah that's where they were when she went missing, wasn't it? I don't know how they have the gall.
