Zero is nothing, and nothing is not a number - 'O' just indicates a position in our numerical system in order to write numbers more easily than Roman Numerals for example.

'O' may as well be written as '€' for all that it matters

Yes, it is a number. Elvis Costello sings "Less than Zero," and if zero weren't a number, then something couldn't be less than it, right? Also, when Al "Scoop" Oliver played for the Montreal Expos, he wore the number zero, and Jim Otto, Hall-of-Fame center of the Oakland Raiders wore uniform number "double zero." And, "0" and "00" both appear on a roulette table. So it's got to be a number.

Actually, zero represents the number wives I wish I had....I've only got one (soon to be an "ex", hopefully), but God Almighty, one is a lifetime supply.

As one of the great innumerates, I don't know. I do remember reading that the lack of a zero contributed to the downfall of the Roman empire. Maybe they should have thrown zeros at the Barbarian hordes.
The zero was introduced by the Arabs. Where would the computer be today without them?
