If you don't want any of the obvious choices, I plump for Twins of Evil (1971). It's a Hammer horror starring Peter Cushing as a Puritan preacher with a sideline in burning witches. Very effective, atmospheric movie, and kind of straddles the line between the old and new sensibilities in vampire pics.

Try "The Hunger" a Catherine Denieuv (sp), David Bowie, Susan Sarandon flick from the 1980's. The sound-track is beguiling, cinematography on par with the era but the script is a little different. A bit of a twist on the stereotypical ones we've all come to love and yawn at.

Razor Blade Smile (1998)
A 19th century woman (Eileen Daley), who has become one of the undead, acts as a hired killer in modern times
Hilarious...and different.
Lust for a Vampire (1971)
In 1830, forty years to the day since the last manifestation of their dreaded vampirism, the Karnstein heirs use the blood of an innocent to bring forth the evil that is the beautiful Mircalla - or as she was in 1710, Carmilla.
Nadja (1994)
This ultra-hip, post-modern vampire tale is set in contemporary New York City. Members of a dysfunctional family of vampires are trying to come to terms with each other, in the wake of their father's death. Meanwhile, they are being hunted by Dr. Van Helsing and his hapless nephew. As in all good vampire movies, forces of love are pitted against forces of destruction.
Tale of a Vampire (1992)
A Vampire/human love story beautifully shot...
To Sleep with a Vampire (1993)
Stripper distraught over losing her son in cutody battle to her husband...wishes to die when she cannot see her boy on the night of his birthday. Vampire in the audience hears her unsuccesful phone call and her wish to die...approaches her amd makes her a deal. All she wants to see is her boy's face one last time...and all the vamp wants is a subject willing to die...and so the movie begins...
my kinda slow measured pace...with no Van Helsings, Vatican, holy water or explosions. Just a quiet little story. Good stuff.
Mask of Satan
A vengeful witch and her fiendish servant return from the grave and begin a bloody campaign to possess the body of the witch's beautiful look-alike descendant. Only the girl's brother and a handsome doctor stand in her way.
For me...the definitive vampire story...a black and white classic...moody, armospheric and brutal. Director Mario Bava's horror masterpiece. Enjoy.
The Night Flier (1997)
Two investigative reporters for a tabloid magazine track down across country "The Night Flier", a serial killer who travels by private plane stalking victims in rural airports. One of the reporters, Richard Dees, begins to suspect that "the Night Flier could perhaps be a vampire".
Superb Stephen King adaptation. Mel Ferrer is at his driven best Seriously creepy.
