I know that this is in "Superbad" but it's true. Why are so many guys afraid to tell their friends and buddies that they love them? I love all of my friends the same and I tell them that I love them. I don't consider it a gay thing to tell another guy that I love them. So what's up with that?

That's really nice you say that to your male friends. I think most guys are different coz they are worried about what someone would say about them if they are heard saying that...lolz. =)

A whole bunch of us drink down at the Manly 16ft skiff club in Sydney, out on the pier.

It's a standing rule that anyone who sez anything about loving any of the other guys, goes off the end of the pier.

Usually some sucker stands on top of a table and lets rip with a drunken "I luvs youz all" around 11pm or so while the beer is running and they start into having a gay old time as fred flintstone would say.
Suddenly 'SPLASH' he's off the pier into the harbour and everyone cheers and rushes off to put their next beer on the wet ones account. (local rules)

Danny.

LOVE YOUZ ALLLLLaaaaaaagh *splash*

American homophobia combined with the idea that males showing softness equates to weakness. This even kind of explains why some really messed up guys have a hard time telling this to their girlfriends, even!

I know a lot of guys that do. I come from a huggy touchy feely family and my male cousins tell my brothers that all the time and vice versa. Everyone says it to everyone everytime we see or speak to one another.

They stay away from being "too mushy" with male friends lest it will be misinterpreted. Most guys think l love you is for the woman they love and no one else.

It is the way we are brought up.
It does not seem a manly thing to do.
But I do say it indirectly like, "I love that guy!" only when he does or says something great or profound of course.

Why do you say that? I have heard plenty of guys embrace each other and say. "I love you, man!" Besides I don't for a moment think it is a gay thing! What rubbish!!!

some guys just feel too "manly" and to say I love you to another guy just makes them feel girly which in turn is why guys think saying I love you to other guys is gay:-)

Haven't you been reading the rules?
You kids....
Handbook for Guys Revised Edition
It plainly states,"Guys never tell other guys that they love them unless they are drunk and tell every other person and inanimate object in the bar that they love all them too."
I'm going to have to report you to the committee at our next meeting.

It's like a gay to tell "I love to you" to your buddies. It's really strange.
