one of the pillars in the famous tunnel where she was fatally injured? and why hasn't one been installed to this day?

As I recall it was pillar 13 that was struck head on. A simple guard rail would have saved all of their lives, yet there is none to this day.

For the first 3 answers, you obviously didn't see the car after the crash.

Mark, answer these questions. How could the driver bend down and tie his shoelaces so competently just before the crash and why did Dodi and Diana choose to get in the car with him after being within 12 inches of his face in the elevator?

Conspiracy theories aside (I don't believe them)

Things that could've saved Diana

1. The driver not being drunk
2. The driver not speeding
3. The photographers not being allowed to intimidate the driver
4. The photographers not being allowed to chase
5. Wearing a seat belt (the only survivor from that crash was wearing his)

The guard rail is almost irrelevant because at the speed limit for that stretch of road, a direct impact with a pillar is very unlikely - and wouldn't normally kill anyone who was wearing their seat belt!!

I often have to investigate industrial accidents, and often there are a couple of factors in the chain of causation.

With Dianne, the four causal factors were:

(1) The photographers were in hot pursuit, providing the reason for the move of venue from the Ritz to the flat.
(2) The driver had been drinking and thus his skill level was much reduced for high speed driving.
(3) Diana and Dodi were not wearing seat-belts, thus were unrestrained at the point of impact. (Diane often indulged in this high-risk behaviour - the shots of her on the boat never had her wearing a life jacket).
(4) As you have identified, the central reservation pillars did not have the "armco" barrier that is seen on bridges in the UK. A barrier would have deflected the car off the piers causing it to decelerate over a longer distance.

Take away any one of the above four factors, and Dodi and Diana would probably still be alive.

Henri Paul, the driver, was 3 times the limit of intoxication, so he couldn't have seen the pillar anyways.

Diana, also must have been not on alert, because Dodi was sitting right next to her and they were probably talking or flirting with each other.

The body guard was on alert, but was possibly averted by the nearby papparazzi.

She would have been saved by a simple seat belt. She did not act responsibly that night. She could have told the driver to slow down, she could have taken responsibility for her own transport and security rather than relying on men who - let's face it - let her down all her life.

As for paps - they were hideous but ultimately she had had many many photos taken of her and she knew they would follow her everywhere. The drive across town with Dodi was clearly reckless.

I agree with you. The metal guard on the rail might have saved them. I seen it on TV at the time and it was a terrible tragedy. Yes it was pillar 13, how unlucky is that!!

Possibly but as she sat in the right rear of the car i am surprised she was killed at all
but i must add that i have seen a Merc of the same class travelling at spee about 100 mph hit a crash barrier / take off and summersauld twice landing on its roof and that was not as smashed up as the one in the tunnel
How ever it was reported that the said car was in fact in the garage for repair and could have easilly have been altered as even the engineers at mercs could not beleive it and wanted to test it but where in fact refused

An armco crash barrier would have reduced the fatal nature of the crash, however the biggest thing that she could have done to improve her survivability was to wear a seat belt.

Wearing a seatbelt would have saved her, yes I have seen photos of the car, but plenty of people have survived horrendous crashes where they have had to be cut out, but have lived because of a seatbelt.

A seatbelt would probably have saved them.

Edit - Yes, I did see it. I also know firefighters who cut people out of car wrecks. They've told me you might be surprised at the state of vehicles that people wearing seatbelts have survived in.
I do get your point though. Any safety measure designed to lessen the impact of a crash can only be a good one.

It's hard to say for sure. However, what would definitely have saved her life was if she had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
