I just downloaded an episode of Supernatural and when I play it it plays a couple of second of video saying "this video will only play with DivoCodec, it's free, get it from playon.divocodec.com". It doesn't really make sence to me that it would be telling me that I don;t have the right codec with a *video* ... would I be stupid to go to the link?

To help you to understand it a little better let me see if I can explain.
Video has several different Codec's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codec
This can depend on the software that was used by those making the ORIGINAL Video.
The subject of DVD can be confusing to those that are not familiar with how it works.
Many users are not even aware that there is a difference.
You may or maynot be familiar with some of the terms used in the link below.
If you will take a little time to scroll down through it and read a little it will help you to understand better than anything else I have ever found on the subject.

It is a real codec. Though most videos use DivX codecs this is just a slight alteration and should work just fine.

- I retract my statement after doing more investigating. It is a trojan virus. Use my source to play your videos, it's an awesome player.

It is a real codec according to me. But, I do not want to find myself guilty if something happens. See from which site the codec downloads. If it is from reputed sites, download it. If not, take your own decession.

I am 99.99% sure that it is a real one and not a virus
