Good question Sammy . The original Van Halen was way better than Sammy ever was or will be . The only exception to that is when Hagar was with Montrose.

van halen, poison, and def leppard are all in the same boat - the music is fun to listen to if thats what your looking for.. shallow music that you can party to
but that doesnt make them a bad band,
sure theyre not in eric claptons class when it comes to making the guitar cry or writing lyrics, but i doubt eric clapton could have come up with panama. :)
and besides, eruption is a pretty nice solo
EDIT:
and yeah, like somebody said.. evh never said he was as good as clapton did he?

Though they are not my favorite rock band, they did have some songs I really liked. I have to say they are far far far from the worst I heard. For me that honor goes to Led Zeppelin. Robert Plants voice could peel wallpaper. I absolutely, with everything I got, hate that band, passionately! Thats the thing about music taste, its so subjective, and a very personal thing.

Van Halen never tried to re-invent Rock . They just made fun music that people enjoyed listening to . You sound like your mad at them instead of people who made them out to be gods. I don't believe I ever heard Ed say he was a better guitarist than Clapton.

I'm ambivalent. They have some good songs, but Eddie's fanboys are living in some alternate dimension where he invented two-handed tapping (which he didn't) and is somehow the most technically competent guitar player in the incredibly long history of the guitar, or even the relatively short history of the electric guitar (which he is neither).

I don't think they are the worst, there's dozens of bands that can win that honor. But I don't like them (aside from a few songs they did with Hagar). I find David Lee Roth annoying and a bad singer. Most of their songs are simple and childish. And I think Eddie is nowhere near as good as his fanboys make him out to be.

I do agree with you in that David Lee Roth is bad. Eddie on the other hand is not an overrated guitarist. He is good without a doubt. He has never come out and tried to pretend to be the next Eric Clapton. Van Halen has had problems since their conception, however; they have put together some great tunes and albums. Van Halen is far from being the worst band in the world. I look forward to their new album and hopefully their tour.
