Halfway through eighth grade, a new girl moved into my junior high school (this would be late 60's), and we quickly became best friends (yes, I'm a guy, and no, she wasn't my "girlfriend"). For four years we were virtually inseperable. We knew what made the other tick, what we liked and disliked, and even those dreams and desires we kept out of view of everyone else.

Anyway, her dad was a research chemist and was often away for extended periods of time, sometimes overseas. During our senior year, he was working in England. He came home for a couple weeks around the beginning of November to tell the family that his project had been extended indefinitely, and that after Christmas they would all be relocating to London.

My friend (that is such a lame word to use when I think of her) and her sister who was a year younger were able to stay with their aunt for an extra week or so before leaving. I rode down to the airport with her the night she left. I truly felt as if my heart were being ripped out. Her aunt let us have a few minutes alone just before she had to board, and then she was gone.

We kept in touch for a good five years after that, and I got to see her a twice when she came back to visit. But eventually, we ended up just going our own ways. There are times when I still miss her, and this all happened over thirty years ago.

My godson died when he was 4 months old and his funeral was really difficult the coffin was open so we got to say a final goodbye but it was really hard to see his sweet little innocent face! I cannot believe he would have been 5 tomorrow. A child's funeral is the most horrible thing you could experience. 2 years later I went into labour on his birthday and gave birth the next day. xx

Dad left Mum, me and my sister when I was six. He left when I was sleeping. He never came back. I got told he left for another lady in another country. The most difficult thing was that he never said “goodbye” to us and I never had a chance to say “goodbye” to him. Do I wish to say “goodbye” to him now? It’s been difficult but it doesn’t matter that much to me anymore.

It hasn't come yet but I have to say goodbye to my sister next year as I'm going to college. This will be heart breaking as we are best friends and I'm going to college in another country.

to my friend paul when he died. i hadn't seen him for almost a year because i'd been overseas. i came home for the funeral and it was the hardest goodbye i've ever had to say because i didn't get a chance to say goodbye while he was alive.
