i am also on tiscali and used to get this often. i have a netgear router. pulling the power plug on the router was often enough, failing that re-boot pc aswell. since i plugged the router into a ups i've had no more problems.

Could be an issue with the authoritative DNS servers being used with your ISP connection. Tiscali should be able to help you. Ask them if it is a problem with the DNS servers they use. If so, can they provide alternative ones (that you may be able to input)

It is most likely a physical problem at your site - your equipment can't make connection with the server that is supposed to connect you to the internet. One source of this is a DSL modem with a separate router where the router comes up powered first before the DSL. Power both of them down (unplug them), then power up the DSL and after a minute the router. If you have no router or if this doesn't help, inspect the lights on the equipment and see if they are indicating all is working.

It's nothing to do with your isp, or your modem it's because your browser can't read the Domain name system (DNS) address.
Let me guess I bet you're using ie?
Google: ie6 and dns errors for more information.
Ditch IE and get Firefox is my advice. You wouldn't believe how many times I've had DNS errors with IE. IE6 being the worst. Nothing on this earth would convince me to go back to Microsoft now.

Sounds like it is your ISP.. I would simply call them and find out if they are experiencing a problem in my area and then demand they reimburse me for the time the internet is down.
A DNS error could be a setting in your network settings but if it was working fine and just happened then it's the ISP.. especially if it is all sites.
Good Luck
