I'm auditioning for a drama school -- 17 and female; my believable age range would be around 14 to 25. I need to find monologues and a song that haven't been overdone already. It's also an overseas school, so I have to be impressive enough that they'll choose me over a resident. This is what I need:

-One Shakespearean or Jacobean monologue, in verse
-One monologue from a 20th century play
-One monologue from a published contemporary (post-1980) play
-A 2-3 minute musical theatre song appropriate for an alto of unknown range

Even if you can only suggest one thing, you're helping me quite a bit. Thank you.

I think you're absolutely corrrect in choosing pieces that represent your actual age range...

These are all alto songs that may be appropriate for young adults or teens:
When Your Good to Mama, Class, Nowadays, Roxie - Chicago
The Gentleman is a Dope - Allegro
Spanish Rose - Bye Bye Birdie
Heaven Help My Heart - Chess
Unusual Way - Nine
The Past is Another Land - Aida
Stars and the Moon - Songs for a New World
Maybe This Time - Cabaret
You Can't Get A Man With A Gun or They Say it's Wonderful- Annie Get Your Gun
The Girl I Mean to Be (If you really can play young) or Hold On
- The Secret Garden
The Life of the Party - The Wild Party

For monologues, I found suggestions for:
The Gods Love Nubia - Aida (comedic)
Catholic School Girls by Casey Kurtti (dramatic)
Departures and Arrivals "People Watcher" by Carol Shields (Comedic)
You could also 'speak' Little Lamb from Gypsy. There are several websites out there with monologues listed, I'm sure you could do a search for them and find more suggestions.

Well as for the Shakespere there is only a matter of choise. Why not the to be or not to be monolog in hamlet. In klingon of course *s*
And I think that the audition people is going to make far more impressed by your acting talants if you play an old woman or young man that is any thing you arent. Johan.
