I was talking with someone yesterday and we ended up talking about this generation (Gen. Y?) This is my generation, by the way... anyhow, I've noticed that people my age don't seem to be interested in anything. So may things are offerend to us without us having to fight for it, work hard for it, or earn it. There is no challenge. Are you noticing this too? Or do you disagree? do events in the '60's (in America) have anything to do with it?

Ross A. you're part of the problem generation. I agree that we have a generation of slack thinkers first and foremost. This is a product of existential modern philosophy, I believe and some of that was promoted in the '60s generation. What is worse than no challenge (like war strategies) is that there is a loving Savior who longs for a friendship and who gave up all for us, to be in heaven with Him forever. He paid for our sins by His blood shed on the cross, and he was risen from the dead so that we have hope beyond the grave. To deny this is the greatest sin missing on all the good that God has in store for any and all who would receive His free gift. Thank Jesus even now. God bless you, flower children to verterans. God loves us each and every one. "By grace you are saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not as a result of works so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8 - 9. "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You believe in God, believe also in me. In my house are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you that where I am you may be also. If it were not so, I would have told you. ... I am the way, the truth, and the life. No person comes to the father except by me." John 14

Yeah I just went to an Elton John concert last night and I was thinking the same thing. Music today sucks...and music of generations says a lot. Like he probably was very passionate and loved learning to play the piano like that and probably lost track of the hours that he spent playing and he worked to develop his passion. Where is that today? Why are the hottest songs called "ay bay bay" and all this crap??? I know that for me, I am very sensitive and I think I've sensed this the day I was born. It's affected me. I don't even like talking to people because all people talk about is what their job is, and how much they work, and what new thing they bought or their new house in the burbs where they are totally isolated and living their meaningless material and "high status" lives. Ugggh. Where is the inspiration and the passion for something. Why are we so quick to beat people down when those same people are pathetically miserable themselves? Why can't we look deeper into ourselves for wholeness and happiness and uplifting, rather than try to mask everything by shopping, drinking, and focusing on our appearance. Everyone lives so isolated...and we as a society are morally bankrupt and violent and terrible and obnoxious and rude... ok I could write a 10 volume book on this. Uggggggh.

I have heard ,read and debated this issue with a number of doom-Sayers about 25-30 years back and they had the similar views minus the language. Those youngsters are the one who are running this world now and I think they are doing a better job than their previous generation.I believe, people don't loose their core values in just one generation, though mannerism, lingo and life styles give that impression.I have reasons to believe and also a firm faith that Gen Y,shall do a much better job than present generation because of being much more broad minded, impersonal in trivial matters and a global concern for life and common causes.History shall repeat and repeat for a better one.

I agree with you on a certain level. We do have it easier than the people in the 60s, but we have to realize that every generation does proceed - but there are always problems that we need to overcome, because not everything is perfect. I'm 20, and I've seen so many people care about achieving what they want to achieve. Maybe we don't have to worry much about women's rights, but we do have to deal with the hassle of too much technology, and of course about the pressure of not destroying the world. I find that there is always a challenge if you go searching for it. Sure, it is easy to get information and groups that believe in so many things that you're interested in, but its important how we use that information. Biomedical engineering, business, chemistry and physics are just a few of today's challenging topics and careers. We all fight for our religion whether it be Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, or Atheism (although that may be pointless...). I know a lot of people who have to struggle to put themselves through college, who work full-time and go to college full-time also. I can honestly say that I disagree with you that we have no more challenges left - we still (and always will have) the struggle to earn money to pay for food and shelter. We have the struggles to fulfill the wishes of parents and friends. And most importantly, we have to struggle to fulfill our fullest potential and overcome as many hassles to fulfill our dreams. There are many people my age who care about a lot of things - donating blood and bone marrow, recycling, being green, volunteering at hospitals only to help out, joining the peace corps, taking time out of their week to go and read to sick children, and just going and helping out seniors who feel that they aren't at all appreciated. I'm not pretending that there aren't people out there who just like to party, like to drink and have sex for the heck of it - but I'm saying that there are SO many others that do care.

I do think that the work and moral ethics of this generation is in dissarray. This generation has been pampered with technology, young girls getting manicures and pedicures before they reach high school, cars, high end makeup,...you name it. This generation is given everything at such a young age by their parents, that by the time they reach 25, they have nothing Grande to look forward to because they have expereinced at 16 what i had to wait for untill i reached my 30's. We might as well be prepared to spend our days in nursing homes as we age, because this younger generation is not going to give a darn.

Something unimaginable is about to happen to our world. I honestly believe that no living thing (genY) can consume without producing, We are about to self-destruct from lack of purpose and meaning. We're going to implode because we have been removed from what is natural - fighting for survival. -Sorry I'm a little stoned.

-and to the christians - i dont' give a **** how many "mansions" are in God's house. If he has so many mansions why are forced to live in this hell. ......Thanks God...
