If you listen to any sociologist prattle on for more than a few minutes you will hear about how society is racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. They make up fancy terms and love to use verbose jargon "paradigm", "social construct", "hegemony", and other impressive words.
But what does someone do with a Sociology degree? I mean, other than point the finger of blame at everyone and everything in our proud democratic nation?
Do we really need a whole university department on this? Heck no, we don't! Talk about a useless, worthless department... Sociology takes the cake!

And, did you know: many professors of Sociology are self-admitted marxists? I kid you not! They are actually allowed to spew their lies with impunity. In the good old days they would have been hauled before a Congressional committee and blacklisted from their profesion....now it seems that they are given tenure. Sad, isn't it?

It gives jobs to those who wasted their time and money at university. Without it these highly educated idiots would be emptying ash trays in car washes or some other position they were qualified for.

What is actually useless and worthless is somebody going for a technical degree and that person has neither the interest nor aptitude for it. As a result, that same person goes for a career that is not a good fit and soon washes out by going into middle management or being fired. It really bothers me when certain degrees are considered useless even though college is actually a place for higher learning, not job training. If job training is all you want, consider going to a technical, trade, vocational, or business school instead. You don't need to go someplace where you are being encouraged to think critically and creatively. Like it or not, that sort of thinking does encourage people to question aspects of our society and gives them ideas on how to change or improve it. I'm sorry if that bothers some people but if those changes don't occur, we will never progress as a civilization.

Actually you are speaking of people who are apparently angry at the world. Actually sociology has served me well in my career. I have found myself remembering certain aspects of sociology and applying them. I know what you are saying. I swear, when I left college they had me convinced that the whole world was a negative scess pool. I mean I was conviced at times that everything was negative. Its true. They do that to you. However, I am honest when I say that I have dealt with people such as juveniles or the poverty stricken and have made solid judgements that I felt were fair and understanding simply due to my exposure to sociology. Just take the tests, say to them " Ok I agree, whatever you say, we are all nuts, whatever.....", get your diploma and then get back out into the real world. Good luck in school.

Universities create degree programs and departments for money. As long as students sign up for it, they'll continue to offer it.
Nobody in their right mind would say that Aerospace Engineering is a waste of time, money, and effort - yet my university threatened to close the program due to lack of interest... in other words, they weren't making money on it.

Wow. I'm impressed. You managed waste of time and money, liberal guilt, ivory tower elitists, uselessness, and again with liberal guilt, this time with a dose of patriotism. I didn't think you could come up with any more stereotypical conservative arguments, then you brought out "commie scum". Impressive, and also underutilized. You guys really ought to do more to remind people of the horrors of the McCarthy era.
A lot of us disagree with you. There are plenty of people who think that studying people is absolutely fascinating and absolutely vital. I really believe that anthropology should be taught in every high school, at the very least so that students can learn that there are other, really interesting kinds of people out there who aren't really any different from us. American exceptionalism is a dangerous idea that's gotten us into a lot of trouble. And studying ourselves? Even more important. The unexamined life is not worth living, after all, and it's only by studying our society that we can hope to understand it and its problems. Maybe you should actually read some studies, rather than just lash out at them. I know they use big words, but there are plenty of dictionaries online now. Learning new things isn't bad.

There is a society, why not study it. Physicists use special terminology, why not sociology. Goverments use its findings for all sorts
