Like every other living being, starting from huge molecules that could reproduce. The difference between mankind and every other living thing is the communication, including speaking, writing and all communication devices, and that is why we think we are more intelligent - we have access to anyone's thought that was spoken or written, ever.

I'm completely convinced that we evolved and that life on this planet started as very basic sequences of amino acids that were able to reproduce themselves. I'm also convinced that Earth is not unique in this respect and that there are probably thousands (maybe millions) of other intelligent life-forms 'out there'.
