If you have to eat fast food, try to choose from the healthier menu. But, the better thing would be to learn how to cook simple meals. You don't have cook elaborate gourmet meals to be satisfied. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to put together decent meals. If you like salads, you can buy the salad greens already prepared. Then just add whatever you like, such as tomato, onion, cucumbers. Most stores sell rotisserie chicken, and at Sam's club they have all sorts of meats that are already cooked. You could then build a meal around that. Don't be intimidated by the kitchen, it's no big deal!! Good luck.

Yes, I was for about 3 years. Thankfully, I have changed my Fast Food eating habits. I only have a McDonald's Double Cheeseburger about once a month, and enjoy Double Decker Tacos the next month. I went from eating Domini's Pizza every week (like President Clinton), to eating only 1 or 2 a month. I also have cut down on the portion sizes. A Pizza now will last me for 3 or 4 days.

See if there are any cooking night classes in your area. It would be informative and a nice way to meet people. Some adult night school offer them.
You could also try going to your local bookstore and getting a good cooking basic cookbook like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crockers-Cooking-Basics-Confidence/dp/0028624513/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-4622472-2654411?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1191826189&sr=1-2
I have never gone wrong with betty crocker recipes. I've never read "cooking for dummies" but that is another option, the dummies series usually has pretty good step by step instruction.
There are basic utensils and cookware every kitchen should have as well. Perhaps post another question for those.
You should be cooking in no time!

Maybe ask some relatives for some good recipes. Also, maybe go to the library and get some good, healthy cookbooks you like. And you know what, you can also go to the grocery store and buy "Lean Cuisine". I really like it, and it's really healthy, less or about the same price as fast food. :)
Good luck on your diet.
