Depends really if the items of child ponographical video or CD is in your possession just for the reason of keeping them then there is no law that prohibits them for you to keep them for your own self viewing but if these items is for use for video sale or for profit then you are liable of the violation of the law.
Most of the answer in this category is YES IT IS ILLEGAL, what about those rental and sex video store in the US who rented or sell them, are they liable or violating the law? No they are not because they are legitimize by the law to sell them for matured person in legal age. Those people in the room just say yes or no without knowing what they are talking about. Knowingly if the person who is caught with child ponography in the US and tried by the court, next day you will see him out on bail and walking in the streets. So where is the legal and illegal in this case thou?

Yes it is illegal and I think whoever is caught with it should have to answer to the general public with a sign around thier neck stating so and make it a free for all for the public
