just like we still do now. Not all Native Americans get some kind of kick back from the casinos. That is just crap. We work for our money just like everyone else. A lot have become dependent of government assistance. Which is a crying shame. Because we are treated no better than misbegotten children. Less than dogs. I get real tired of hearing how much money we are getting from these casinos. Listen up out there... Its just not true. You want to know how hard it is living on the reservation. Ask the government why they refuse to run power lines out to those without electricity. Or sewer and water lines. Or hows about why they contaminated our drinking water? I bet you do not hear about that. 75% of the reservations operate without electricity and have running water in their homes. We live in beyond poverty. I hear so many say if you do not like it move... Well thats a laugh. Because we would have no where to move to and no transportation to get there. It takes money. Not food stamps. So we survive by our wits and muscles. and Minds. Like all good americans do...

Don't worry the poorer tribes will catch up.There just like us white rednecks, haven't had the opportunities or a day late and a dollar short. The problem as I see it not only for them but us downtrodden in general is the damn government red tape gets in the way of receiving sorely needed money and help. Because so many people abuse the system and file false claims the ones like the poorer tribes and us that need help don't ever get it. In California the poverty level is about $12,400 a year income if you make more like $12,401 your sh*t out of luck and the government don't give a damn.

If there is one thing that the USA should be ashamed of it is the way that the Native Americans have been treated. Life on a reservation was and still is the lowest standard of living in the U.S. My Grandmother was a Native American and I believe that my Grandfathers family wrote them off but I am damn proud to be a part of that ladies family.

That is the answer for most native Americans even today. Survival. Survival means living in hovels, very Little or no education, unemployment with very low salary when jobs were available, rags for clothing and improper diets and hunger.

Are you talking about way back when, or recently? Before the Europeans came, they lived off the land. More recently, they relied on federal grants through the BIA, and they were (and still are) one of the poorest ethnic groups in the country.
