Hi could anyone who has visited the phillipines tell me where to look re missing persons. A family member (my brother) left australia 5 months ago to go to the Phillipines, he has visited before the areas that westerners frequent to meet women. I'm wondering if anyone has the names of the popular bars or areas that western men usually frequent for sex when travelling to this country. He has travelled their a few times and would likely be in the areas/suburbs that are popular for this type of "tour". I would appreciate any help as family members are concerned. Cheers :)

You should report this to the Philippine National Police, the government agency in charge of these matters. Of course, as a foreign national, this is best coursed through your Embassy.

There are also TV programs that are dedicated to Missing Persons, and they flash photos of the persons so that anyone who has seen them can report the details to the TV station. This has been an effective approach, and the success rate is high. If you are interested, you can contact QTV c/o GMA7. You can email me if you need help regarding the TV flash since I can facilitate.

Have you not heard from him? Would it be like him to settle down here (even temporarily)? I would assume he is safe because if the body of an Australian was found, the Australian Embassy would be very involved and I would assume be mentioned in a newspaper (accessible online). Perhaps contact the bars in the area? I assume since most are geared towards foreigners that many would have websites. Same with the hotels. Do you know if he went to Manila?

He has to have a return airline ticket (you are not allowed in the country without one) so at the least you could call the airline. If they can not give you information, you could always pretend to be him as I assume you would have all of his information (although this is not allowed....). You can at least see if he (1) took a return flight, (2) took a flight to another country, or (3) has an open ticket still in good standing.

Sorry, I do not know anything about the areas to meet ladies.

There should be an Australian Embassy in the Phillipines... I google searched for it and came across this web site, with this information:

Australian Embassy. The Philippines. Embassy address: Level 23-Tower 2 RCBC Plaza 6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City, 1200 - Telephone: 757 8100 - Fax: 757 8268

(I believe this is in Manila)

The Web site address is: http://www.philippines.embassy.gov.au/

...maybe you can contact someone through an e-mail on this web site

If the Philipines is one of the countries that participates on YA, (in fact, they are - see the little Phillipines flag down at the bottom of this page?) I would drop a question pertaining to this sort of "tourism" ... to see what cities are most popular ... it wouldn't hurt

I hope you find him soon.

I'd bring a copy of his birth cert and yours (two original issuer copies), if you have a copy of his passport numbers, and other identifying information to help, including some photos (head shots).

If you're thinking he is staying there then he would need money!
1. Does he have a steady income flow? Or is he simply rich beyond dreams and can live for longer periods without work?

2. If yes to 1, then try the immigratino bureau in Manila off Roxas, they require visas for 90 day periods and he would have had to file for a new one if trying to stay there legally.

3. If you become more cetain he is living there and wish to find him just go to the NSO and pay for a certificate of marriage as he likely got married if staying there.

Peopel there are busy at NSO and Bureau of immigration so add $5 clipped to the applications for the clerk to buy her or him a lunch for the day.

If you know his last hotel you can also go there and look to see if he checked out with the manager, and identify yourself as wishing to pay his bill. That usually get's a lot of attention. If he didn't check out of his room ask for the amount owed so you can get the money for them and for his things back, like passport.

Try of course talking to the PNP, and to the Australian Embassy. They can look at see if they have any deaths in country that match your guy. Many tourists do not carry ID on them when going around to bars at night, so sometimes when a death occurs no one knows who died and know one claims them. While you may be looking for a missing person, they may have your brother as an unidentified person.

Of course theres other ways, like calling his credit card company to report him as possibly missing. While they can't initially help you if you keep trying and talk to the right person they can help you out. He must have been getting bills somewhere so you can probably go to that place and take a look what piling up.
