Guppies have live births. The female needs to carry her eggs which will develop into baby guppies. The female dies, the babies die unless she has already given birth to some. If she gave birth to some babies, they may or may not make it depending on what else you have in the tank with her. Babies can and do get eaten by many other kinds of fish, including other guppies. Good luck. Your best be is to go get another female guppy and wait for her to have babies.

First off, I'm sorry about the loss of your guppy. It's always sad to lose a fish, but losing a pregnant fish sucks even more...

Secondly, as it has already been mentioned, guppies are live bearers. If your momma guppy layed "eggs" before dying, you should dispose of them. Stress can kill fish, and pregnant fish are extremely sensitive to any kind of stressful situation. It sounds to me like your guppy got too stressed out, died, and when her muscles went slack, some of the fry popped out. They won't live without the mother fish to incubate them.

The reason I suggest taking the dead fry out of the tank (other than the fact that dead fish in a tank are kind of gross) is that the dead fry could start to decay, mold, or rot, and eatting them could make your other fish sick.

The best thing to do is say goodbye to your fish, get a new one, and at the first signs of pregnancy, move her to her own tank (preferably a 2-5 gallon by herself) and let her have her fry in a stress free environment. Be sure to have lots of grass and plants for the fry to hide in, because she will eat them, given the chance... Once she's had her fry, take her out of the tank and put her back in with your other guppies. Every new litter of fry she has will be bigger.

Condolences, and good luck with your new fish!

(PS guppies are, in fact, the easiest to breed, so it shouldn't be a problem)

Once we had a fish tank with four mollys...and one of the fish had died, my husband took the fish out and flushed it...but then we discovered a tiny cute little baby fish (about half the size of your pinky fingernail)...it was so small swimming around...the sad thing about it was when we called the local pet store and asked about the dead mom and the baby fish...they said that the mother dies while giving birth but to let the mom stay in there because there was suppose to be about nine more to be born...aww poor fishies

depends, my dad when he was a boy breed these fish. He said that he had a really heavily pregnant fish die, he cut it open near te stomach with a stanely knife and out it in the water and healthy abbies came out. I tried it, it does work.

BUT

not all the time, it may not be ready so don;'t put it in the aquariam, pout it in a plastic cup or something

if the babies still have a sack in the'ir middle, they aren't ready, they don't have gills and are still devolping.

hope that helps and good luck

yes the other person is right. Guppies are livebearers meaning they give berth to fry, not eggs. i wouldnt worry bout it too much because guppies are one of the easiest fish to breed.

Don't worry. Guppies eat their eggs so if any eggs do get free the male will eat them... sorry to make you disappointed. My mom has them and if you want to get eggs your going to have to separate the mom/dad from the eggs.

If you could rephrase your question so that it could be read properly, perhaps we might be able to respond to it. It appears that you are asking some question about guppies but your language lacks the communication skills that are needed for a proper response.

Guppies are not egg layers, they bear live young,so if she's dead, the babies are, too.
