Suddenly started sputtering, drained all the anti-freeze behind me, then died! The engine obviously over heated...When water was poured into the radiator, it came pouring out of the engine block. I am wondering if this is the head? and if so, is it really worth fixing?

honestly they say why put money into a car more than its worth but if you're gonna put 500 for a new engine and another 200 for other stuff you might as well. honda's are good cars and 700-1000 is a whole lot less than buying another car that's gonna break down on you.

If the leak is at the back side of the engine, closest to the firewall under the manifold, I would suggest inspecting the area with the help of a mirror. These older hondas use a 1.5" pipe to pass coolant from the water pump to the opposite end of the engine. This steel pipe is very thin when new and get progressively thinner with rust. I have replaced these pipes countless times. When they rust out, they spray antifreeze everywhere. It's always best to confirm before condemn.

If all the water came out in the front part of the engine(belts area), it may just be the water pump that went bad.
If it is in need of an engine replacement, you can buy used engines for that car very cheap. About $7-800 installed with a warranty.

It might just need a new head gasket,and that will be exspensive enough. If there is any more damage, it is probably not worth it. It might be cheaper to replace the whole engine with a used one than to fix it , and depending on the rest of the car, it may be time to replace the whole thing
