We had the best storm ever this year, and the rain was insane. After it let up all the roads were pretty much flooded, my question is can you stall out if you kept driving through all the puddles in the road? I was scared so I stayed in the middle non busy roads to try and avoid them.

If the car is fairly new, you should be safe (slowly) as long as the water is below (about) 3/4 the height of the tires.

But if the car is old, the car can stall even if the water level is lower. The reason is that as you drive through the water, it will splash all over the engine. And the moisture can short out high voltage wires and kill the spark (killing the engine). If the car is fairly new, the wires are also fairly new and will do a good job of not being shorted.

Good Luck.

Yes. Least worst is the water short circuits some electrics like ignition components and the car stops and needs to be dried out for a few minutes. At worst a large amount of water is sucked via the air intake into the engine and water cannot be compressed like gas and air so the engine hydrolocks..... the stress on the rods trying to compress an incompressable substance will cause damage inside the engine.
It is why serious off roader vehicles have air intake snorkels so they can go through deep water. Water in engine is a disaster but the puddles would have to be quite deep for this - or you are flodded by a tidal wave from another vehicle passing you.

You should drive through deep water very slowly otherwise water will get into every part you can imagine and possibly flood the electrics and yes the car can stall, test the brakes when you are out of a deep puddle.

If water splashes up on the engine, you could stall. If you fall in a deep pothole or rut , you could get water on the engine and stall. But, if the water is only a couple on inches deep and if you drive slow, everything should be fine. Staying in the middle of the road is safe only if no one else is on the same road.

The water would need to be awfully deep to stall. The important thing to watch for in the rain is your car can begin to hydroplane, your tires will not make contact with the pavement and it will be like driving on ice. Especially don't drive with cruise on, the wheels can spin and you will take off like a shot.

Yes. If it's a newer car you could destroy the computer, flood inside of vehicle, possibly suck water into the intake. Slow and easy and shallow water should be safe.
