The Columbus Day sales that are under way signal the traditional start of the fall merchandise markdowns. This year, some experts say, a shake-up in the retailing business may give shoppers new opportunities to save money, especially on clothing.

Will you be shopping maybe?

at 11:59 and 50 seconds i will count down the seconds until Columbus day and then I'll probably buy a tree, decorate the tree with pretty lights, carve a jack o' lantern, paint eggs and hide them on myself, and wear green and listen to Irish music

I don't take Columbus Day seriously because there was nothing to "discover". The land and people indigenous to the Americas were there long before he stumbled upon them. The doofus thought he was in India, anyway.

I should go to Europe some time and declare them "discovered", and name them all Chinese, as that was my TRUE destination....

Every year on Columbus day, we set out in three ships find some tiny island and enslave the people there, steal everything that they have, and force our beliefs on them.

Ah, tradition...
