Iam trying to setup a router to run my computer and my xbox360, so far everything is connected just right, right now i have internet connection on this compuer as soon as i run it through the router there is no connection i just need step by step on how to set up a wired router.

plug it in and run the software and follow the directions on the software

The step by step setup can be found in either the Quick Install Guide and/or the Manual for the router. If you dont have one goto the manufacturers website and download it.
Companies use tons of paper every year to make these manuals. If those trees are going to die then atleast read them.

Usally wired router need no setup unless you want to do advanced features like, content filter, block access for other wirelss connection etc.
Connect PC, Xbox to LAN connectors. Connect your modem to WAN connector (all of them are ethernet usually).
In your PC, assuming IE, go to Internet Connection setting, choose always connected LAN as option.
To do advanced configuration, most of the routers have web based configuration. You type 192.168.0.0 (for netgear, for other look into the user guide), the admin user id & default password are given in the user manual too.
Anytime you forget the password, reset the router by hardware (press and hold reset button for 10s or more while poweron for netgear, other see user manual).
