I have a 2000 Chevy Express 1500 Van, I replaced the fuel pump and the van started fine afterwards. The van was not driven for a couple weeks after this, and now will not start. It turns over fine and their is fuel getting to the engine, but it will not fire. I dont know if the computer needs to be reset or if ti has some type of vapor lock or what. Any suggestions?

I would have to agree with Matt G it does sound like it could be some sort of Vapor lock or may possibly just be a very dirty fuel filter as well. Hopefully when you replaced the pump you put a new filter in. Purge your system and hopefully that will solve the problem. You may also need a tune-up it could be that you have some faulty plugs or even some wires are just gone. Consider a whole tune-up new plugs, and wires, consider getting a new battery too since most of us are hitting the winter season.

It sounds like it may be vapor locked. On the engine is a purge valve that looks like an air valve. Turn the ingition on and press to see if you have fuel pressure. This will let you know if you have fuel pressure but that will not let you know if you have enough fuel pressure to keep the injectors open. Most chevys with the 5.3 engines require very high pressure i.e. 90 lbs. You should purge the air out as much as possible and that might fix your problem.

Here is a suggestion that has worked for some of my vehicles. Try unhooking the positive cable on your battery and leave it off for about 30 minutes. Then reattach it and this should reset all your computer bios for your car and may cure your problem. Good Luck!
