a marathon takes determination and patience. it long and you start it knowing it will be awhile untill its over. you start slow and a a comfortable pace you gradually gain speed. a sprint is full on as fast as you can running. you put in all you got right at the start. now apply that to your relatoinship. it can be applyed to sex and your feeling for one another.
but by the way that is a very good thing for a man to say. many guys don't have the common sense to realize that relationships take time. nor do they want to be in a real relationship. this guy seems to be smart and genuine

Marathon = Steady pace, nothing too fast, nothing too slow
Sprint = Very fast

He's saying he wants to take things slower with you, but to continue on as how you have been without jumping too fast into anything. In it for the long haul, enjoy yourselves together but not to pressure one another into something too quick.

I would say it means, He wants to take his time to get to the finish line. Such as marriage or just getting to know each other. He does'nt want to hurry things along and rush into everything at once.
