I think the biggest race problem in the United States is the assumption that _everyone else_ is racist.

Racism is something that can't really be eradicated. Even professors of social work don't seem to understand this. In order to make sense of our surroundings, we literally have to group things together and make inferences about them. We're clueless if we don't do that. So we should all start realizing that racism isn't only real and present... it's inevitable.
What we can do, however, is establish informal rules and norms that spurn the BEHAVIOR fueled by racism, ignorance and hatred. We can create better methods of communicating differences in such a way that we learn something through our racist interactions, rather than resort to primitive behavior like the Jena 6 incidents.
This all begins once we figure out how to effectively educate our youth.

Racism has been going on since the dawn of time.
Look back at history what with the Jews and Egyptians . Nazi's , Russians. etc. Then you look Saddam Hussein and how he wiped out a whole culture
Racism exists and always will.
Sometime watch Star Treks "Let this be your last battlefield"
How both men where black and white. One was black on the right side and white on the left side. The other was white on the right side and black on the left.
The one who was black on the right side said that the being black on the left side people were inferior. How silly is that?
You are not naive. I do wish someday we can all learn to get along regardless of race , religion . etc
But this is my opinion

I'm going to answer from a foreign point of view. I live in Mexico. Despite all that border problem stuff, I have always felt US citizens were quite racists not only toward those who aren't caucasian but to themselves as well. Your country is filled with a large amount of mixed cultures. Each with their own prejudices and racism matters making it all even harder. Only education will help all to accept each other. Don't expect from others anything for there will always exist racism. We just have to teach our kids to tolerate, accept, respect and learn from other races, in the hope of them to do a better job than our generation.

Racism is alive and well starting with the media, the media tends to only tell half the story when it involves a caucasian it sad to say but it is the truth. For instance the media did not report that the white guy who got beat up had a shot gun and got five years probation and the black guy got charged with attempt murder facing 25 years for beating the white guy up. I do think that some young people are more excepting of other races of people.

I think that racism is still going strong. It is hard for me to see mainly because I live in the san fransisco bay area. But at the same time we have come a long way from the 50's and 60's. we still have a long way to go. It is hard being in california because racism is not as in your face as other states in this country. you are only naive because of your past experiences. You may not know racism because of where you live.

Hi Shuggie.
I think we all have to start relating to each other as individuals, instead of by race.
I'm sure if we all take a moment and look at the comments made by Eritrean Dishrag, you'll see that unfortunately, your feelings are true. There are still people in the US who continue to hate others because of their skin color. How unfortunately ignorant.
I think it should be reported, don't you?

The trick is understanding that racism is not as bad as it used to be, however, there are still racists out there they just have to hide it better.
