Not for a t-shirt, no. If I am buying a golf shirt (ones with a collar) then I do prefer to have a pocket.

When you buy a pair of sox do they have to be white?
No they don't, but most of them are (made) that way.
My T's don't have to have a pocket, In fact I actually prefer pocketless t-shirts.
Judging by the TONE of your question I'm "guessing" you prefer pocketless t-shirts as well. Am I correct.

Not usually. I used to when I used to smoke because of the convenience of carrying the pack but no more.
