My boyfriend and I have never been to Darwin before and we plan to go there for my birthday in February for one week. We’d like to go for a nice romantic holiday and enjoy the food & wine along with indulging in spa treatments and just absorbing the vibe of Darwin…

Hi my name is Jeni and i live in darwin and i have some information here for you to look at.

Darwin, the remotest city in Australia is located at the top of 'The Top End' and is the only true tropical capital city in Australia. The city has had a tough history. It was destroyed by heavy bombing in World War II and devastated again by the infamous tropical cyclone Tracy in 1974. However, the city is tough and resilient and has been rebuilt bigger and better than before.

Darwin attracts substantial numbers of tourists as it is a fascinating city (unlike any in the world) with a beautiful harbour, marina complexes and a diverse lively character. It is a perfect base to explore The Top End (as the tip of the Northern Territory is known) and the Kakadu National Park.

To accommodate the visitors there are ample facilities and places to stay. The SKYCITY Darwin is a welcome addition and includes accommodation, restaurants, casinos, night clubs, exhibition and convention centres, live music venue and bars. However, as the tourist season is protracted (due to The Wet Season) accommodation can get booked out so it is wise to plan ahead.

Aquascene
Darwin 's most popular tourist attractions is Aquascene which is located at the end of The Esplanade in Doctors Gully. This is a unique experience where hundreds of fish come in shore to be hand fed by visitors wading knee high in the water. Many species of fish take part in the feeding frenzy including catfish, bream, Milkfish and mullet. The more cautious Barramundi do get close enough to touch. Aquascene is open between August and December and feeding times vary. .

Hi,

I was in Darwin in August last year (2006) which was during the dry season so not too hot.

Best website to get information on attractions, accommodation etc is the Tourism Top End website and they have a full list of ideas of places to visit including list of accommodation to suit all budgets.

Tourism Top End:
http://www.tourismtopend.com.au

However travelling to Darwin or the Northern Territory in February (summer time) wouldn't be a good idea because this is the wet season and it gets really hot and humid so best to go during the dry season which is during winter months.

Hope this helps your question.

Thank you

February in Darwin is the Wet. Very hot and humid. You break into a sweat just blinking. My suggestion is anywhere with air conditioning.

I would think about places like Gagadju Lodge (may have the name wrong), the crocodile shaped hotel in Kakadu NP, although a lot of the park is closed or inaccessible in the Wet.

SKYCITY Casino has the best accommodation in Darwin, Maseur, pool, gym and is close to the city, however it is the wet season, never know you might be lucky enough to get caught in a cyclone.

ignore that mob. yes the casino would be a good place to stay as it is right on mindall beach and you may get to witness some terrific storms coming in across beagle bay. yes it is the wet season in february and compared to down south you may find it hot and sticky but there are lots of pools and air cons and you do your sight seeing in the mornings before lunch. you will love it and we are very friendly people !!!
