there are TONS of books that tell you how to invest. None of them guarantee a profit.
Schwab.com, etrade.com, yahoo.com all have excellent information and advice, as do many others. The stock market is not for the weak willed. It is an unemotional sea of money to be made, and lost.
I've made several thousand, and lost a little less. I'm in mutual funds now and real estate and haven't looked back. You might consider them too.
