Should I sell my laptop on Ebay?

Question

This is my story:
My mom bought this laptop for me on July 20th.
July 20th was two days before my birthday so, it was a birthday gift.
I really wanted my Pink Sony Vaio Laptop!
And I got it!
Now 2 and 1/2 months later my laptop has been giving me problems and I am so fustrated!
My speaker gives my problems.
My camera dosn't work!
My access button don't work at times!
I am just fustrated.
I havn't even had it for 3 months yet!
So, I want to sell it on Ebay!
But, I really don't want to hurt my mom or dads feelings!
Please Help!

Try to get it fixed if you still have the rescue cd's; if you sell a piece of sh*t on ebay it could lower your ebay rating, if you dony care then screw them.

Terri J is correct, there is no way to destroy all the information on the laptop without completely destroy the hard drive (i.e.: take a hammer to it) or you can also take a big magnet to the hard drive to wipe it out. Magnets & hard drives don't mix.

Now with that said, where did your mom get this laptop? If she got it at a reputable store there is more than likely a 1 year manufacturers warranty. Find out where she got it, and if it is a reputable store, take it to the store to find out if they will exchange it since it has been less than 3 months or contact the manufacturer in regards to their warranty. Most companies have a 1 years manufacturers warranty.

Let your parents know that there is a problem with the computer. I'm sure they'll get it fixed, exchanged, etc. and I'm sure they still have the sales receipt especially for an expensive item such as this.

Yes, Paypal would have been the way to go on this deal because they would have taken care of you. Always wait 7 business days AFTER you cash a check from someone incase a situation (like this one) arises before mailing something. If you notice, a lot of Ebay sellers state that they will hold a check 7 days before mailing. This is why. I'm not sure how you thought is was a cashiers check though (no details about that). Every cashiers check I've ever came in contact with is a clear money order/cashiers check (as stated on it somewhere) even if it has the buyers name printed on it. I would contact your bank to see what they have to say about this situation. They will be able to lead you in the correct way to solve this situation legally. Good luck!

you should tell your parents about the problems its having and then find out if the seller has some type of return policy, after 3 month its probably not possible to return it, if you should sell it online make sure you include "sold as is" and make sure you state the problems associated with it. if want another alternative , bring it to a compusa or a best buy for a scan check. it would probably cost a $100+ just to find out whats wrong with it.

NEVER sell a laptop to a stranger. There's no way to completely erase the data on it. You could be giving someone your personal information, including accounts, etc.
