It is likely that the US does not look up at anyone, the answers on here are clearly the usual reactionary right wing nonsense that I have come to expect from the average US citizen.

I have rarely come across an American that does not believe that biggest is best, that does not understand that trashy is not style, and does think that every Brit speaks like Dick van Dyke in that dreadful film.

I have yet to come across an American that can spell or speak English properly, an example from a posting here, 'victimized', an 's' not a 'z'.

There are intelligent people in the US but I feel the overall image of the US is one of a spoilt teenager who daddy supports with out questioning the motives of the child.

The aspects of the UK that Americans seem to have an interest in are, our history, they have none, our monarchy, they want one, and our upper classes, because they see them as somehow more British than the rest of the UK, I would suggest this is because the upper classes of Britain are the ones that most conform to their desired stereotype of us.

The average Brit is in fact a quick witted, quick thinking person who does not tolerate fools, and often sees the US as composed of overweighth burger eating trailer trash as depicted by most of the Holloywood 'elite', the current President, Homer Simpson, and of course Britney Spears.

As opposed I suppose to free thinking radicals such as the Clintons, Debbie Harry and.... and.....and...er.... Fred Fintstone

I wouldn't say Americans are obssessed with the U.K., but they certainly look up to Britain as the "mother" nation.

Americans wrongly believe that Brits are more sophisticated than they are and they'd like to be more like that if they could. If they ever think of Britain, that's why.
