It grows straight up and is really green with a thick stock and thick slippery small leaves....I took a piece off of my friends plant and that is how i got mine, however hers was larger and it looked like it grew in coils but mine is growing straight up and I have no idea what type of plant it is. I have tried searching and I cant seem to find anything!!! please help if you can

Sorry, but it doesn't sound like a jade plant to me. I would need a picture to id it.

Can you find a master gardener in your area? Try a nursery or the closest University's extension office for help in locating a Master Gardener to identify it and tell you about its care. Master gardeners are usually very happy to help and most counties and states require us to freely donate so many hours to helping answer questions like yours. Most are more than happy to help. Have a look at Portulacaria afra. Sounds similar to your description. Common here in RSA (KZN) and the leaves are eaten by the indigneous ladies to augment breast milk production.

It sounds like some kind of succulent. But I couldn't say without a picture.

It sounds to me like a jade plant.... tough things they are, just don't overwater.
