I'm staying at my friend's and I NEED to take a .docx document (its Microsoft Word 2007) and open it and save it as a .doc..I had it in my email and saved it to this computer but it won't open on this computer (Windows 2000). It can only open on Microsoft Word 2007 edition...so I downloaded a trial of the Word 2007 but it won't open and info popped up saying this Windows is too old for Word 2007....arg help!

MS 2007 has the capability of saving a copy to an earlier version.

Or, you could save the 2007 version to a .txt file and open the .txt file in 2000. You will lose formatting though.

Or, you can try a free, online converter at

There is an assortment of programs you can download from OpenOffice.org, most of them free, which will enable you to open/create various documents and such. See the link in "source", below.

I use it when I need to open .doc documents, and others which my system does not support.
