After Tom Johnston leaving the Doobie Brothers would the band have it better if Pat Simmons became the full time lead singer and continue where they left off? I feel that they would cause I really think Pat Simmons has a great voice and I would have loved hearing him sing on more songs.

The reason why I'm asking is cause I know that the hardcore Doobie Brothers fans were angered with the fact that Michael McDonald became the singer for the group and totally changed the band.

Toulouse Street, Stampede, Captain&Me, Vices, are all my favorite Doobies albums...they are classics...all with Simmons and Johnston.

Minute by Minute was the only "McDonald" album that I thought was decent. The McDonald era was just too mellow....

The evolution of the Doobie Bros was cemented with MacDonald. Minute by Minute was a strong album, and they made money. I am not sure if Simmons would have made a difference. His solo effort, Arcade, went nowhere. They should be happy they made an album with a couple of top 10's and are able to do reunion tours!

The Doobie Brothers themselves preferred Michael McDonald (and the increase in their bank accounts)

I liked the group when Tom Johnston was with it but I never liked Michael MCDonald. His voice annoys me and I didn't like the songs as much as the earlier ones.

I don't know, maybe he changed the bands direction, but Michael McDonald has a great voice and he did a great shop know he had a pair of tough shoe's to fill.

Yeah, where did all the guitars go when Michael arrived?

I thought they both contributed in their own way. I liked them anyway.
