When you're doing laundry, when do you put in the laundry detergent?

On top of dry clothes?
After the water has filled up?
Before you put in the clothes?
Or do you fill water up first and then put in the clothes and then the detergent?

I add the detergent as the water is filling the washer. I put the clothes in when the tub is between 1/4 and 1/2 full.

I wait until the water is running already.

My routine:

1. Dry clothes in carefully placed on either side of the agitator and weighing about the same amount. Repeat until 3/4 from the top of agitator.

2. Set the cycle to fill. Water starts.

3. Detergent. And, bleach in bleach dispenser if it's a white load.

4. Close lid

As the water is filling up the washer I put the detergent in and the put in the clothes.

I wait till the water start to fill the washer, then I apply the detergent, them I put in the clothes, and apply a little more detergent.

I go to a laundry place that has the front loading machines. for these I add the detergent right before adding the money when the clothes are already in. Also the place is a coinless laundry. you buy a card to use each time.
