I'm currently 7 months, and one week pregnant, and i'm still working 44 hours a week. It's really starting to get hard on me, and i keep asking my boss to cut my hours, and he won't because we are still a bit busy for the season. He just hired on a new person. This person will be picking up hours while i'm on leave after the baby. He told me that once he was trained he would move me to 32 hours a week. But that still hasn't happened. Would i be to selfish to get a doctors note to have my hours cut? I work in a casino, and i'm on my feet quite a bit, and i don't get breaks for dinner, or anything. ( I'm in a seperate building where it's just me ) I have to shove me face so fast i sick because i can't eat in peace, if i even to get to eat. Just wondering what your thoughts are, and if anyone else has done this. I feel really bad, but i'm just whooped from this job, and it's been really stressful on me. I have only been sick ONE day out of my whole pregnancy too. i'm 29 weeks

You need to take care of yourself and your unborn child. If you have sick leave available, you might think about using that. If you start FMLA (if you qualify for it), that's only 12 weeks, so if you took that now, that wouldn't give you much time after the baby is born. But if your doctor will give you a restriction, then your employer needs to follow that restriction. And it's illegal for you to not have breaks.

I worked as a waitress and bartender until 33 weeks. The place that I worked was really busy and I worked 10-12 hours a night. I barely had time to eat and also had to stuff my face. I know exactly how you feel! I say, talk to your boss, but set a date when your hours will be cut back. Then, set a date for your maternity leave. Setting a date will give him an idea of where you stand on this. It worked for me. Good luck and try to take it easy.

First of all, you need to file a report with L&I. If you are working an 8+ hour shift you are entitled to a 30 minute lunch break, and two 10-15 minute breaks. That is the LAW! 2nd, I worked 12-14 hour days until 18 weeks and then 8 hour days until 29 weeks (Also on my feet all day) and I ended up going into labor and had my son. We almost lost him. Get your doctor to write a note and if they refuse to honor your doctor's note you need to then file another report with L&I.

I also worked in a casino as a cocktail waitress when I was pregnant with my first one. I know exactly how you feel, girl! My doctor cut me back to a five hour a day restriction when I was about 30 weeks. If your doctor feels the same way about things as mine did, I am sure that he would do the same thing for you, and they would by law have to accomodate that. Definitely, if you are feeling like being on your feet like that is too much for you, then do something about it. I would think that your health and the health of you baby is waaaayyy more important than peeing off your boss :D

I agree with everyone else!! Get your doc to at least cut your hours back as far as possible!! I know where I am you can take 15 weeks of sick leave then start your Mat. leave at 33 weeks. Your far enough along I would think to go off of work for at least a year... check what the "rules" are where you live then let your doc know how hard it is on you and he just might make it so you dont have to work at all! Good Luck!!

I am with you. I am 35 weeks pregnant , working 40+ hours per week and thinking about having my doctor give me a note to cut back my day. I am just dead tired all the time - and it's only gonna get worse the farther along you get.... I don't think it's selfish at all to get a doctor note. Actually thats the responsible way to go, really.
