Like most Americans I’m a little conservative on some issues, a little liberal on others. And llike most Americans, I’m pretty moderate. If we’re such a great democracy why the hell do we elect right wing or left wing nutcases who don't really speak for us, don’t really represent the majority of us? Can’t we do better than choosing between extremes?
Why do we keep putting wolves in charge of the hen house, so to speak? Can't we do better than this?

I attend church and believe in God but think religion should not be forced on anyone through our s keeping and maintaining a strong military but still believe Bush lied to us. I’ve fought in two wars myself and believe in our military leaders, but seldom in the politicians who pull the strings. I go hunting and believe in the right to bare arms but don’t think anyone should be able to buy a machine gun. I support and fought for civil rights, but I think welfare has created laziness. I believe schools or political parties. I don’t believe in gay marriage but do believe gays should have all other rights. I support the death sentence in all ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ cases. I believe in only women should decide what they can do with their bodies. I believe a flat tax is the only true democratic way to levy taxes.
I’m a moderate hoping we’ll finally put a moderate back into the White House.

Sorry the added 'details' above got jumbled up. Yahoo was acting really weird when I tried to post the above.

Honestly, the American public is so spoiled when it comes to our freedoms that I sometimes wonder if we're worthy of it. It is a national disgrace that more Americans vote for American Idol than in political elections. However, I do NOT want idiots out there voting for someone just because they've heard the name before.
Freedom comes with responsibility, and part of that responsibility is to be knowledgeable on current affairs. Know where the candidates stand on the issues - at least the ones that mean the most to you.
But no, they certainly don't speak for me. I think extremists are ruining my country and it pisses me off. We allow Americans to literally terrorize other Americans, and our laws really don't offer any protection. If we can't get along with our fellow countrymen, we're never going to get along with anyone else.

The extremes are there because they define the middle, where the true democracy of this country is founded. We always end up somewhere in between. We rejected Goldwater and the extreme right, just like we rejected Mondale and the extreme left. Sometimes Democrats win, sometimes it is Republicans. It just proves that the system works, although someone is usually unhappy with the results.

I stopped reading after the first 7 sentences because you jump around way too much. You need to make a point to each scene and stick with it. You also need to go through and edit for others to read it there are many grammar errors. Once you do that I am sure more people will be open to read and make comments. It is just too hard without some simple editing to understand it.

Not really. Most are in the middle. The far left has enough money to control the media and keep good people out of running by smearing them. Why would anyone run knowing you would be dragged through the mud for doing nothing. The far left deals with lies not the truth. Peace

No. They keep trying to, though. I'm getting rather fed up that the moderate middle in this country is so ignored. Guess we need to find a way to let it be known the middle is the majority.

Fringe groups, like we see many examples of, here on yahoo, are less than minority in the real world. Their crying and screaming are that of an insignificant pest looking for a reaction, while their banner carriers denounce everyone who isn't as extreme, as the opposite side.

I don't like either group. I vote Democrat as the lesser of two evils, but I'd much rather have a moderate or a Libertarian in office.

No, no, no, no and no!!! My brother is among the far right, though I think most of it is posturing. Nonetheless, he sounds, as my father says who is also conservative, "As nutty as those far out liberals." I, and my father, may call ourselves conservatives but truth be told we're moderate who lean toward the conservative side.

The wing-nuts on both sides control the party processes that select the candidates - which leaves the rest of us with the usual "lesser of two evils" choice.

In the case of the liberal party, those left wing nutters hold the power in the party. AS for the right wing, only a few nutters hold power there, in most cases it is social conservatives who hold power right now.
