I just wonder if it is worth to spend some money for my baby's crib? Thanks.

A crib is important and very much worth it. Cribs protect baby from accidental falls when they begin to pull themselves up to stand usually at about 9 months or so. There are two heights for the mattress so a newborn has the mattress on the top height so mom doesn't have to bend way over to get baby. Then when baby is close to crawling you move the mattress to the bottom level so that when they stand up - they can't fall out and get hurt. Make sure to get the bedding that goes with it because if you don't use the padded fabric that goes around the bars on the inside - baby can get arms and legs trapped between the bars which is traumatic to them. My daughter went to a toddler bed when she was 1 and a half - my son moved into it at 2 and a half. It depends on the baby and how quickly they develop. Each one is different. A crib is worth it and you can find good deals by using ebay and contact your friends at church - someone is likely to have a good one they are not using. It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg and you don't need to spend $5000 on one. I wouldn't spend more than $500 for a brand new crib - the bedding is all worth it. They get attached to the blanket and you need sheets and it's really great to get a plastic mattress liner for the crib so that the mattress doesn't get runied and stinky from diapers when they leak a bit. A crib is also a safe place for baby to play at times when you need to vacuum or take shower so he or she doesn't get hurt while you're not watching them. You can attach stimulating toys to the side of the crib that encourage baby to learn cause and effect and develop their muscles and fine motor skills. A crib is I believe quite essential. A crib is a relief measure for mom - you can be assured that if you take your eye off baby for a moment or two that baby is safe and happy - until they start crying!

My first son moved from a crib to a toddler bed when he was two years old. We had just moved from an apartment to a house and decided to put together the bed instead of the crib again. We got a new crib for our three month old, but what's great about it is it's a convertible crib. It goes from a crib to a toddler bed to a day bed to a full size bed. I'm planning on using it (and the matching dresser) until he's 18, so I feel something like that is money well spent instead of a few hundred dollars on a crib that's only used for two years or so. That may be something to look into for you. I put the link of the crib that our baby uses below.

Yes, it IS worth money to spend money on the crib. If you try to keep the baby in a toddler bed it will eventually roll over and fall out. The crib is a lot safer.

If you're worried about the cost, either buy a crib used or maybe get one of the cribs that convert to a toddler bed. Butm make sure the used crib you're buying is safe, that means that the slats aren't too far apart, it isn't painted with lead paint, or it's not sturdy and could collapse. Also make sure the crib mattress isn't torn or ripped anywhere..you can get a brand new one very cheaply at Toys R Us.

But don't NOT buy a crib..the baby needs a safe place to sleep and a bed just isn't it.

My daughter was 13 months when she went from the crib to the toddler bed. My son was 2 yrs and 3 months when he went from the crib to the twin bed.

When the baby is ready you will know. But the baby does need a crib.

My little guy just moved from his crib to a bed. He is 27 months. He was starting to try and climb out of the crib and I figured he should be moved into a bed. The first few nights I had a bit of fun chasing him back into his bed, but now he sleeps through the nights. Naptime is still a challenge, but he is going back to that now too.

Invest in a good, solid crib. Baby will be in it for a couple of years. When baby moves into a toddler bed, pack the crib away and save it for baby #2 , sell it or lend it to a friend. I used my crib for all three of my kids, then gave it to a friend who is now using it for her baby!

My crib is gathering dust and baby clothes lol
My 4 1/2 month old still sleeps with us. We could have waited to get a crib but I had no idea how i would feel b4 the baby. I can't have him so far from me.

You will need a crib. A toddler doesn't usualy move into a regular bed or even a toddler bed until they are 2.5 or 3 years old.

I know my mom didn't move us out of our crib until we started figuring out how to get out of it. :) It could be anywhere from 1.5- 3 I would think. And yes it is worth the money to spend it on the crib.

My son LOVED his crib. He never crawled out of it, but when he turned 2 we decided it was time to move him into a bed.

We jumped right over the toddler bed and put him in a twin, and he LOVED it....and still does. He is almost 5.
