I am working for a company right now that is paid by the school district to provide free tutoring to children who are below the poverty line. The tutoring is not "free" because the school district pays us to provide the service. However, it is free for the families. The parents are so greatful for this! You will be doing a great thing!

Definitely...I tutor students in math every friday afternoon. It is a great way to help others and if you are in an honor society, such as National Honor Society or Beta Club, it would be a great way to get service hours.

Yes, And i would approach your teachers to see which one would be intersted in giving you extra credit for doing this.
It's already a great way to show you care about others, but at least get some recognition for it.

if you like that type of thing. but if you ask because you want things to put for a scholarship/college application, that would be more of volunteer work than a hobby persay

we do it in our school system and it helps student test scores, helps kids understand their lessons and skills better, helps them complete assignments, and keeps them off the streets and in a safe environment
