That would be the volume of a cylinder.
It is ((pi*diameter^2)/4)*Height.
This would give you the volume in inches^3
One gallon is 231 inches Cubed.

If you do the math it is about 5.22 gallons.

Using the deprecated units makes it a challenge. Let's try.

Volume of the tank = area of end times length.
a) area of the ends = pi*r^2 = pi*4^2 =pi*14 = 50.25 square inches. (I assumed that 8" round means a circle of diametre equal to eight inches).
b) surface times length = volume
50.25 sq. in. * 24 inches = 1206.37 cubic inches.

There are 12*12*12 = 1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot.

1206.37 cu.in. = 0.698 cu.ft.

Liquid capacity:
One cu.ft of fresh water weighs 62.4 pounds
Therefore 0.698 cu.ft weighs 43.56 pounds.

A US gallon of fresh water weighs 8 pounds.

Therefore 43.56 pounds of fresh water corresponds to 5.45 US gallons.

An imperial gallon weighs 10 pounds so 10.9 US gallons corresponds to 4.35 imperial gallons.

well you also have to take into consideration the air pressure too.
