Xenu: At the time Affirmative Action was introduced, it was necessary because of the racism that was rampant in our society. There has been some discussion recently to discontinue it.

Same thing!
I am a republican... not happy with whats going on in this country right now but that has nothing to do with my choice of wanting Equality!
I also believe in the quality of our nation. if democrates and republicans separate and have a hate war thats just as bad as being prejudice against black or muslim, etc. thats not Freedom!
The freedom to choose, and choose not to judge you for your decissions of being a democrat.
everyone was there cliques!

Democrats are not really in favor of equal opportunity. If you are thinking of affirmative action, which eliminates equal opportunity in sake of equal population (quota system). The more we are able to look at each other as individuals, rather then groups, the faster equality may be achieved.
Equal opportunity, just means that we all have the ability to interview or the same access to jobs. The Democrats in recent history have been in favor of a system which goes away from the idea of opportunity. Also, Democrats from the 1800's-1970's, were highly racist and were chief leaders of racial divide in this country.
Strom Thurmond, was a fore-figure for the Democratic party for many years.
Just saying, the your interpretation for equality is equal opportunity, which is highly admirable and of great moral character, but for a party stance, they have lost touch with you.
Republicans, have as well lost touch with their base. The have only pandered to the mega-corporations and religious groups. But, to a true ideal Republican, it would be to honor the Constitution, which provides equal opportunity to all. The freedoms are already there, the 9th and 10th amendments guarantee them to us.
We are in need of a leader, who can bring us back in touch with the Constitution and bring our individual rights back. Equality is gained through our understanding, respecting, and treating each other as individuals.

Republicans believe in equal opportunity. Democrats believe everyone deserve to succeed the same.
Republicans believe in equal protection under the law. Democrats believe in special protection under the law.
Republicans believe all people are equal and can make something of themselves. Democrats believe some people are inferior and therefore need to get special help (They call this Affirmaitve Action, but in reality it is known as racism, bigotry and hatred.)
The truth is Republican actually believe in equality and Democrats do not.

Equal opportunity. Taking race out from every law and bill, because we are equal and race doesnt matter. I dont care what gender, race, religion, etc you are. You are legally equal to me and we are all humans in the human race. So, racism in the Jena 6 crap and all the stuff Sharpton and Jackson do are unacceptable if you truly want equality. Im for merit-based scholarships. Im for equal pay for women.

the ability to be able to do anything you want without fear of penalty after all it is just a piece of paper, also no opinion anyone has on equality is worth anything unless it is backed up with at least a million or so dollars

It means the same to a Republican.
But what it doesn't mean is that if I work hard and make a successful life, I should not be obligated to keep buying bums their dinner.

In general, we use the word "equality" to mean that everyone has equal rights, and what they do with them is their own business.
